In order to defeat humanity, a Borg ship travels back in time to prevent Zephram Cochrane from inventing warp drive. Captain Picard must pursue his nemesis back in time to prevent Earth from being assimilated, and to ensure that the founding of the Federation goes as planned.
In the past, the Enterprise succeeds at destroying the Borg ship. To everyone’s surprise, a few Borg survivors beam onto the Enterprise and begin assimilating the ship and crew. With their backs against the wall, the crew split up: a small team works with Cochrane on the planet to repair his damaged ship and the rest stay aboard the Enterprise and try to retake control.
First Contact is generally regarded as one of the better Star Trek movies. It features an engaging villain, a tense and well paced script, and some action set-pieces that work well (for Star Trek). Plus! James Cromwell is always a fantastic actor to include in any production.
Clay and Wes discuss the second TNG film and how well it holds up when compared to the best of the TOS films. Was the Borg Queen a good idea? Does Picard’s relationship to the Borg feel too “TV”? And does this movie feature Worf’s greatest line?
