In “Much Ado About Boimler” Mariner tries to impress her best friend from Starfleet Academy who is now a visiting captain. Meanwhile, Boimler is sent to a Starfleet medical ship after a transporter accident puts him “out of phase.”
With the senior officers away on a “Chain of Command” – esque adventure, the USS Cerritos gets a new captain. Mariner has a connection with the visiting commander and the two enjoy reliving the good old days. However, Mariner keeps making simple mistake on all her away missions, leaving a rift between the two. Eventually, the Cerritos encounters a Federation ship undergoing a crisis and Mariners true personality comes out. And then we get a cameo from the pilot for The Next Generation!
Rutherford is working to make the transporter a fraction of a percent faster. Boimler volunteers to help Rutherford and is beamed through the new system. He becomes “out of phase” and obtains a ghostly glow and the constant hum of a transporter, whirring around him constantly. The doctor can stop the noise, but Boimler’s condition is otherwise not improved. He is sent off to the “farm” – a place where his medical condition will be cured. He joins a ragtag group of “freaks” as they mutiny against the captain of the ship transporting them.
Oh, and as a nice side plot Tendi genetically engineers a dog that has much more going on than is first apparent. Dogs always talk right? And fly and shoot lightning out of their butts? I’m sure that’s the case.
