Q is back, but he seems to have gone a little… mad? And he is putting so much stress on the word “Penance”! The second episode of Star Trek: Picard’s second season takes its time detailing the “dystopian, totalitarian nightmare” that Picard and his buddies find themselves in. It’s not quite the Mirror Universe, but it sort of is – things have gone very badly in another split of the timeline, and the gang will have to head back to 2024 Los Angeles to save the day. But first, let’s plug the Borg Queen into the ship.
Nothing can go wrong there.
In “Penance”, Picard finds himself transported to an alternate timeline in the year 2400 where his longtime nemesis, Q, has orchestrated one final “trial.” Picard searches for his trusted crew as he attempts to find the cause of this dystopian future.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss “Penance” and how they are most definitely not in the Mirror Universe. Plus! The guys chat about the writing skills of George Orwell, Rios piloting a warship by himself, and the confused point of view of modern Star Trek.
