Enterprise investigates the mystery of a lost Earth colony whose inhabitants disappeared decades before. But that doesn’t mean they left. “Terra Nova” features the crew of Enterprise unraveling the mystery of a long lost colony but it does so with an extremely bland second half that answers none of the questions raised in the first half.
Terra Nova has long been a mystery to humans. Seventy years ago, a ship left Earth for (relatively) nearby Terra Nova with hopes of forming a colony outside of the solar system. After the settlers arrived on the planet, communication was lost and no ships were able to make the journey to find out what happened.
With the creation of warp capable Enterprise, humanity can finally find the the answers to the mystery of Terra Nova. Archer is ordered to find the colony and determine what has happened.
Upon reaching the planet, the crew discover an abandoned town. They soon discover that they are not alone. After tracking a humanoid to some nearby caves, Archer and the crew discover that the “natives” they’ve been following are actually the youngest members of the Terra Nova settlers. Over the past 70 years, the then-children have devolved into a culture with little connection to humanity and even less of a connection to the King’s English.
Archer is faced with a dilemma: does he forced the Novans to return home to Earth or does he leave them to die on a remote planet?
In this podcast, Wes and Clay discuss the episode that creator Brannon Braga cited as his “least favorite” episode of Enterprise. It’s an hour of television that sets up a lot of potentially interesting questions only to squander the narrative with some nonsensical action sequences.
The guys discuss the problem with Terra Nova’s timeline, the inability of the crew to learn from their mistakes, and the magic of not knowing the truth!
