The Borg have finally arrived in Federation territory, and they’ve assimilated Captain Picard so that he may serve as their mouthpiece!
Since first contact with the Borg (way back in the episode “Q Who?“), Starfleet has been planning for a possible invasion. Commander Shelby, a Borg expert, is assigned to the Enterprise when various colonies along the Federation’s outskirts are completely destroyed. But Shelby proves to be a difficult addition to the crew. Her outright pursuit of Commander Rikers position as first officer aboard the Enterprise ruffles some feathers and leads to a complicated working relationship between she and Riker.
Chaffing under the pressure of the younger Shelby, Riker begins to question his future aboard the Enterprise. He’s been a commander for many years, and has been offered his own command numerous times – is it finally time to move on?
Unfortunately, the abduction of Captain Picard leaves little time for the consideration of career opportunities. When the damaged Borg cube manages to begin rapid repairs, Riker is forced to use a devastating weapon as a last resort. With the crew begging for the chance to rescuse Picard, Riker makes the most difficult command decision of his career:
“Mr Worf. Fire.”
