When Trip Tucker assists an alien vessel with repairs, a “friendly” encounter with one of the crew leads to rather unexpected consequences. “Unexpected” is the story as old as time: man looks to the stars, man explores the stars, man becomes impregnated with an alien fetus.

Enterprise continues to explore the adventures that would eventually define the Federation. This time, Archer and the crew happen upon an alien race in need of assistance. Archer send Trip over to the alien craft. After a stressful decontamination/decompression porcess, Trip enters the alien ship. And what a ship! It’s got grass for carpet, the food grows on the walls, and they have a mysterious holographic room that seems vaguely familiar.

Oh, and they also have an alien who clearly has the hots for good ol’ boy Trip. So the two engineers have a date in the holographic room and they rub some salt on their hands and share some non-embarrassing secrets.

The Trip goes back to Enterprise and gets the bad news. He’s pregnant.

It turns out Trip was accidentally impregnated during his time aboard the alien ship. Now he’s got a small alien fetus stuck to his side and Archer needs to find the aliens so they can figure out what to do. Meanwhile, there is comedy aplenty at Trip’s expense. He gets to wear some very baggy shirts, worries about the child-proofing aboard Enterprise, and grows an extra nipple.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay try to understand the hate that “Unexpected” gets from the Star Trek community. They discuss whether or not Enterprise is relying too heavily on established canon. Finally, they wonder about the facial expressions of Scott Bakula.

Plus! They guys break down popular names, why intent matters, and whether or not the Klingons look appropriate!
