DS9 DS9 Season 7

Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang

In “Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang”, holographic mobsters try to run Vic Fontaine out of town. It’s up the crew of DS9 to perform the heist of the century.

Wes and Clay discuss being attacked while playing in the holosuite, a heist without much difficulty, and the powerful sexuality of Nana Visitor!

There’s trouble brewing on the holosuite. Vic Fontaine has been run out of his lounge by some vicious holographic mobsters. The crew of DS9 can’t reset the program or they’ll wipe Vic’s memory. “Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang”, the only option is for Sisko and the crew to enter the holosuite and pull of the heist of the century.

The crew will have to rob the casino to stop the mobsters from paying the “skim” to their mob boss. The crew give a quick review of “Ocean’s Eleven”, and the plan is drawn up. Kira will woo the main mobster. Sisko and Vic will gamble a lot. Ezri and Bashir will spike a drink to make the vault available. Kassidy Yates will distract a security guard. Odo and Nog will steal the cash.

Worf and Quark will get some reading done.

Sure, there’s a war going on. Yeah, it’s a bit ridiculous that the entire senior staff is playing hooky. Sure, they jam in a bit of strangely out of place ranting about racism. Sure, the heist plot isn’t much more than the most generic heist plot of all time.

But in the end, “Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang” succeeds as yet another “the crew kicks back and has some fun” episode in DS9’s final season. It’s very similar to “Take Me Out to the Holosuite” in that regard. This episode was produced as the final “regular” episode of DS9. Before the “Final Chapter” arc begins, the series takes one last chance to have some light-hearted fun with everyone’s favorite holosuite program.

In this podcast, Wes and Clay get together to talk about the series taking some time to look around. Has the show taken too much liberty with its final season? Or is this a well deserved break?
