DS9 Series Wrap Up

With DS9 over, Wes and Clay get together to give some final thoughts about the series as a whole.

Is DS9 better than TNG? Does it matter? The guys try to understand the complexities that make DS9 unique and both amazing and awful (but mostly amazing).

With DS9 over, Wes and Clay get together for a final DS9 series wrap up. After more than 170 episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space 9, there is a lot to discuss! In this far ranging episode, the guys try to grapple with the highs and lows of the series and how it manages to separate itself from its fellow Trek series.

While DS9 did a remarkable job expanding the Star Trek universe, it was not without its flaws. While TOS and TNG stood with a repeatable formula, DS9 branched out into new territory. And with that exploratory approach, the series made a fair share of missteps. But is that enough to knock the show from its perch as the “thinking mans” Star Trek? Or do the advances that the series made outweigh any negatives?

And it goes without saying that the cast and guest actors who populated this universe were some of the best Trek had ever seen. The main cast itself is extremely strong and balanced, but the guest actors and characters defined the series. From the oily Weyoun to the maniacal Dukat to the honorable Martok, the universe of Star Trek has never felt so alive.

In the end, we’re left with a decision. Is Star Trek: Deep Space 9 the pinnacle of the Trek franchise? Is it the series that took the Roddenberry concept as far as it could go? Is Ira Steven Behr correct when he calls DS9 the “most human” of the Trek shows? It is up to each viewer to decide, but hopefully this podcast has given you something to consider. It’s been a tremendous amount of fun covering the show and finding out what did and did not work over seven seasons. That’s it for our DS9 series wrap up!

In addition, Wes and Clay give out some rankings for the main cast. They also list their favorite episodes. And lastly, they pick their favorite guest star/character! If you’re interested in more of that, follow the show on Instagram and Twitter.
