PIC PIC Season 1

Nepenthe

In “Nepenthe”, Picard and Soji meet up with some old friends. The La Sirena races to the rescue, and Elnor and Hugh square off against Narissa.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss the problem of nostalgia, rabbit pizza, and the failure of Soji.

Picard and Soji transport to the planet Nepenthe, home to some old and trusted friends. As the rest of the La Sirena crew attempt to join them, Picard helps Soji make sense of her recently unlocked memories. Meanwhile, Hugh and Elnor are left on the Borg cube and must face an angered Narissa.

Arriving at the planet Nepenthe, Picard and Soji encounter some old friends. William Riker and Deanna Troi have set up a homestead on the planet. Riker has even taken up cooking rabbit pizza! While the two former colleagues of Jean-Luc Picard are happy to see him, things have not been entirely pleasant for them the past 15 years. Riker and Troi lost a son to a rare disease due to the ban on synthetic development. They now live a simple life with a precocious daughter.

The La Sirena tries to make its way to Nepenthe. However, the ship is being tracked by Narek – wherever the La Sirena goes, Narek’s ship is soon close behind. Onboard, Agnes starts to become wracked with guilt and (literal) illness. Commodore Oh had mind-melded with her a few episodes back (remember the sunglasses?) and apparently it left quite an impression on Agnes. A quick cut montage shows us that we should expect some big explosions in the future, but the reason is still a mystery.

On the Borg cube (or Artifact), Elnor and Hugh seem to have strangely free reign to roam around, until they run into Narissa. The Borg cube’s curse of bad narrative continues to infect anyone aboard it, as Hugh meets an untimely demise at the hands of the big bad Romulan lady. Elnor finds a Ranger SOS button and pushes it.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss “Nepenthe” and catching up with old friends. Is there something satisfying about seeing Riker and Troi outside of the nostalgia? Are the Romulans the worst villains the franchise has ever seen? That, and more, is discussed!
