Stardust City Rag

The La Sirena tracks Bruce Maddox to Freecloud, a Vegas-esque planet that feels like a more polished version of Mos Eisley. Maddox has found himself in a dangerous position and Seven of Nine agrees to help rescue him.

Clay and Wes put on their best fake accents to discuss “Stardust City Rag”!

The La Sirena crew begins an unpredictable and lively expedition on Freecloud to search for Bruce Maddox. When they learn that Maddox has found himself in a precarious situation, a familiar face offers her assistance. “Stardust City Rag” fills us in on what Seven of Nine has been up to for the past fourteen years and gives the crew a chance to play dress-up (outside the confines of the holodeck).

Bruce Maddox has found himself in quite a pickle. His lab has been destroyed and the Tal Shiar are after him. He comes to Freecloud seeking sanctuary but instead finds himself the prisoner of Bjayzl, a crime lord type who runs her business on Freecloud.

After tracking Maddox to Freecloud, Picard and his crew need a plan to extract him. Raffi settles on an Ocean’s 11 type plot which allows everyone to dress up in ridiculous clothes and don fake accents. Seven agrees to assist. However, as the plan comes to frutition Seven reveals her true reason for coming to Freecloud: she seeks vengeance against Bjayzl. It turns out that Bjayzl has been harvesting Borg technology from unlucky ex-Borg. One of her victims was Icheb, the drone from Star Trek: Voyager. This made Seven of Nine very angry.

In a minor sideplot, Raffi meets up with her estranged son outside an ultrasound lab (or something) and trys to reconcile. Unfortunately, her commitment to the “synth attack conspiracy” leads to no progress with her son and she returns to the ship to continue along with Picard.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss the fifth episode of Star Trek: Picard’s first season, “Stardust City Rag”. They wonder about the return of full fledged Discovery pacing and if the show was simply doing a good job of hiding it for the first four episodes. Where exactly is this series going?
