Starfleet has come to the realization that the only war to win the war against the Dominion is to turn towards the offensive. A massive fleet is assembled with the mission of taking a key Cardassian sector that would provide access to Cardassia Prime. Unfortunately, Sisko recieves a message from the Prophets: something horrible will happen if he leaves the station.
Meanwhile, Dukat ingratiates himself with Weyoun and Damar and explains that he has a plan that will destroy their enemies. After freeing a Pah-Wraith from its voodoo doll prison, the possessed Dukat manages to sneak aboard DS9 and destroys a Bajoran Orb. Unfortunately, Jadzia Dax crosses his path and is killed by magical fireballs.
Season six, an extremely up-and-down season of DS9, goes out with an up-and-down episode that features of the death of an up-and-down character. “Tears of the Prophets” follows the standard DS9 structure of ending the season with events that will impact the upcoming season, but this time it feels a bit more cliche and artificial.
Clay and Wes get together to discuss the farewell episode for Terry Farrell as Jadzia Dax, the Trill who lived eight lifetimes. She has served as an advisor to Sisko, a lover to Worf, and a temptation for Bashir and Quark. She was never the strongest character, but she had become well developed over the course of six seasons.
