“When it rains, it pours.” Things go from bad to worse as our characters run into a series of difficulties. Gowron arrives at DS9 to take command of the Klingon forces. Worf and Martok worry that Gowron is taking the fleet into pointless battles in order to restore his standing in the Empire. On Bajor, Dukat and Winn continue to study the text of the Pah-Wraiths. Seeking to gain an advantage, Dukat studies the text alone and is blinded by the Pah-Wraiths (not sure why). Winn takes the opportunity to cast Dukat out into the streets, blind and penniless.

Meanwhile, Odo discovers that he is infected with the disease that is ravaging the Founders. Bashir and O’Brien realize that the disease was a creation of Section 31 as a biological weapon against the Founders. As such, Starfleet will not allow them to work on a cure, lest the cure fall into the hands of the Dominion. Bashir is so busy trying to save Odo that he doesn’t even realize that Ezri wants to have sex with him!

Behind enemy lines, Kira begins to train Damar’s rebellion in the ways of the terrorist. With the support of Odo and Garak, Kira attempts to show the Cardassians the new type of warfare they need to undertake to survive. Unfortunately, old habits die hard and the Cardassians are reluctant to take advice from their former enemy.

In this podcast, Wes and Clay find an episode that provides structural and narrative satisfaction! After a long stretch of subpar to middling plots, “When It Rains” provides a snappy script that ups the stakes in a natural way. As it’s the fifth episode in a ten episode arc, it’s about time.
