Kor, the elderly Klingon warrior, makes his way to the station and informs Worf that he wants to die with honor. Yes, it’s yet another Klingon who wants to die with honor in Star Trek. But can this episode break free from that cliche and show us something new?
Worf informs Martok of Kor’s wish, and Martok flies off the handle. He reveals that Kor comes from a Klingon house that is highly esteemed amongst the Klingon people. Martok, on the other hand, was born from a lowly house and had to work his way through the ranks to attain his current position.
The trio journey out behind enemy lines to conduct some raids and distract the Dominion forces. While on their mission, Kor exposes some mental deficiencies and Martok humiliates him in front of the crew.
Will Martok, Worf and Kor be able to work through their differences? Will Martok ruin a legend or will Kor prove himself to be a superior warrior?
“Once More Unto the Breach” mostly rehashses some themes we’ve seen before: faith in your elders, finding a purpose in life, and the crisis of honor in Klingon society. However, it pairs that material with some interesting space visuals and back story for Martok.
