After being called to a rendezvous on an alien planet, Odo is surprised to learn that it was Weyoun who orchestrated the meeting. And the surprises don’t stop there: Weyoun reveals that he is a “defective” clone from the Weyoun line and that he intends to defect to the Federation.
Back on the station, Sisko is itching to take the Defiant out to the front lines. Unfortunately, the ship needs repairs. And unfortunately for O’Brien, that means an unrealistic repair schedule or it’s his neck on the line. Luckily, Nog volunteers his services to obtain the necessary parts. There’s just one problem: he’s going to go full Ferengi to get them.
“Treachery, Faith and the Great River” brings the series back into the Dominion conflict and highlights the importance of faith to the series. The Vorta view the Founders (and Odo) as gods, the Ferengi have a faith system based on supply and demand, and even the Bajorans recognize that the Prophets they worship might simply be aliens.
The episode turns its back on the “fireballs and blue lightning” religion of the Prophets and instead takes a more philosophical (and Trek-like) approach to the material. Perception is everything here, and it’s befitting of a series that believes in “infinite diversity”.
