The End is the Beginning

In “The End is the Beginning”, Picard recruits a crew to help him find Bruce Maddox. On the Artifact, Asha works with ex-Borg (and returning character) Hugh to treat reclaimed Romulans.

Wes and Clay discuss the third episode of Star Trek: Picard and reveal how they feel about Picard returning to the stars!

Completely unaware of her special nature, Soji continues her work and captures the attention of the Borg cube research project’s executive director. After rehashing past events with a reluctant Raffi, Jean-Luc Picard seeks others willing to join his search for Bruce Maddox, including pilot and former Starfleet officer Cristóbal Rios. “The End is the Beginning”, but the beginning is not the end! Not yet, anyway.

Picard recruits Raffi to help him find a captain who can help him find Bruce Maddox. Raffi and Picard have had a strained relationship over the past few years. After Picard resigned from Starfleet due to inaction regarding the Romulan evacuation, Raffi was fired. She ended up living in a desert trailer park and seems to have picked up a bad drug habit.

Fortunately, Raffi connects Picard with Rios, a former Starfleet officer who has his own ship. Rios is a bit of a strange one. We’re introduced to him as he’s undergoing surgery to remove a Mega Man metal blade from his shoulder. He also seems to have programmed his EMH to look like himself? Rios is also a prolific reader, so he’s sure to have some upcoming ethical battles with Picard.

On the Artifact, Soji Asha works with returning ex-Borg Hugh on reclaiming former Borg drones. It seems that Romulans are not easily assimilated and when reclaimed they have mental trauma that is proving difficult to work through. Asha and Hugh manage to connect with a reclaimed Borg who reveals that she knows the truth about Asha: she is “the Destroyer”.

In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay discuss Picard returning to the stars. They also talk about the mystery of the Borg Cube and the Romulans, and they try to figure our if Commodore Oh was making some kind of statement with those sunglasses.
