In the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Damar attempts to let slip “The Dogs of War”. After being ambushed on Cardassia, he, Kira and Garak attempt to kick start a revolution against the Dominion. Back on DS9, the Siskos get some exciting and terrifying news. Quark gets some exciting and then upsetting news. Odo gets some news that makes him angry. And Bashir and Ezri hook up, which is mixed news for Worf.
Is this a “Ferengi episode”? It has a substantial Ferengi plot line. If not in importance, then strictly screen time. Quark receives news that is to to be named the next Grand Nagus. On cue, Brunt shows up to bribe Quark for some favors. But Quark hasn’t been home in a while and is unaware of the changes that Zek has been making. Taxes, more paperwork, and social safety nets? What has Ferenginar come to? And why did they have that scene where the communication view screen wasn’t working?
On Cardassia, Damar, Kira and Garak try to lay low. They soon get bored and take to blowing up Dominion facilities. Damar quickly becomes an inspiration to Cardassians everywhere, which a semi-rousing speech that seems lifted directly from “Braveheart”. But revolution cannot be stopped, and the dogs of war slip their leash. The Dominion has a problem on their hands. It might not show on Tv very well, but they definitely have a problem.
